21 Emergency appeal for Darfur 2011

Caritas will provide food, clean water, healthcare, peacebuilding and skills training to over half a million people in camps and host communities in South and West Darfur in 2011 as part of an ecumenical programme with the Protestant and Orthodox ACT Alliance.






EA 20 Emergency Response to typhoon Megi in the Philippines.

This 6-month programme is in response to the transitional shelter needs of 400 families in three provinces in Northern Luzon who lost their homes following super typhoon Megi which hit the island on 18 October 2010.

Caritas is appealing for € 183457.00/ $243,266.45 in a continuation of Community Based Disaster  Preparedness Programmes in 112 villages in India affected by floods in  2007 in the states of Bihar& Orissa.






EA 17 Western Equatoria, South Sudan

Caritas is appealing for € 2. 4 million/$3.1 million  to prevent excess mortality and morbidity among 30,000 IDPs, refugee and host communities whose lives have been directly affected by the campaign of terrorising attacks waged by the LRA rebel forces in Western Equatoria State, Sudan.  Read more...





EA 16 Haiti
Caritas is focusing on rebuilding homes, providing education and training to help Haitians get back on their feet following the 12 January earthquake. Caritas members working in Haiti will spend US$176 million/€ 132 million) over a twelve month period that began in May 2010. Over 1.5 million people will benefit from the programme. Read more...





EA 15 Benin
Caritas is appealing for US1.8 million (1.3 million euro) following heavy flooding in the West African country of Benin. Over 350,000 people have been affected by the floods and dozens have died. Caritas will help people cope with the immediate effects of the floods by giving basic food items to around 4000 families. Around 20,000 families will also receive essential items such as mosquito nets, blankets, mats, buckets, as well as medicines and hygiene items.

EA 14 Pakistan
Caritas is appealing for over Euro 4 million to help a quarter of a million people who have been affected by the recent floods described as the worst flooding in Pakistan in living memory. The 3-month (August – October) response aims to provide assistance in health, food, shelter & non-food items, water and sanitation, protection and community infrastructure.  Read more...

EA 12 Sudan disaster preparedness
Sudan is facing into what could be an enormously difficult year ahead. The Referenda are scheduled to take place on 9th January 2011. Regardless of their final outcome, it is likely that a huge level of stress will be placed on the country in the months and days leading up to the referenda and beyond. The aim of this project is to strengthen the capacity of the Caritas family (diocese, national, and member organisations) in Sudan to respond to anticipated emergency situations in the country, including any scenarios that develop during the build up and aftermath of the Referenda as well as other man made or natural disasters.





EA 11 Cambodia Typhoon Ketsana

Caritas is appealing for US$ 794,606 (Euro 651,316) to help people in Cambodia recover from Typhoon Ketsana. The year-long project will help around 10,000 families with shelter, sanitation and infrastructure, as well as giving them support in disaster preparedness and in returning to work .




EA 10 Angola refugees

Caritas has launched an appeal for US $377.015.98 to improve nutrition and health conditions, as well as the social integration of the expelled 17,500 Angolans from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).Read more...





EA 09 Warm shelters need in conflict-hit Kyrgyzstan 

Caritas is launching an appeal for USD 5.8 million 29,240 (EUR 4.6 million) to help families affected by conflict in Kyrgyzstan. Over 14,000 people will be supported in building warm shelters and receive bedding for the winter at the sights of their destroyed homes in Osh and Jalal. These may include homes for the disabled, the elderly, a children’s sanatorium, and two women’s shelters.  read more...








EA 7/2010 Niger - Food  Security nutrition.
Niger- food crisis: Caritas is appealing for 2,88 million euro to help almost 250,000 households suffering from the food crisis with food distributions, Cash for work programmes and seed distributions. An additional support will be given to 17,000 children and pregnant or breastfeeding mothers in Caritas Niger’s nutrition centres. Read more...






EA 6/2010 Nigeria - Ethnic violence
Nigeria – ethnic violence in Jos: Caritas is appealing for 500,000 euro to provide 2,500 families with a food package and hygiene kit, 120 families with material to rebuild their houses and 1000 returnees with seeds enabling them to restore and enhance their livelihoods.



EA 5/2010 Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe – recovery and rehabilitation programme: In a two-year programme, Caritas is planning to address the needs of 82,988 highly vulnerable persons by providing them with access to food rations, drinking water, agricultural material and Disaster Risk Reduction trainings.




 

EA 4/2010 Chile earthquake
Caritas is appealing for US$8.8 million (6.5 million euro) food, hygiene and shelter for 542,000 survivors of the Chile earthquake. The nine month project will also offer capacity building for farmers and fisherman and psychological and spiritual support. Read more...

Chad – Sudanese refugees: Caritas will support 58,000 Sudanese refugees in camps in Eastern Chad and 9,000 poor local farmers for at least another year. Aid includes access to clean water, better hygiene conditions, seeds and tools for agricultural production as well as leisure activities for the camp’s children. Read more...
