Ethiopia is a country synonymous with drought and hunger. But changes to rainfall patterns and an increase in frequency of droughts is deepening food insecurity. Communities which in the past had produced excess food are now relying on aid to survive.

The situation will worsen as temperatures in Ethiopia are expected to rise over the next hundred years by between 1.1 and 5.1 C (UNDP).

The Climate Justice Conference of the Ethiopian Catholic Church is due to be held in Addis Ababa, 2-4 June.

The national Caritas – the Ethiopian Catholic Secretariat, Catholic and other faith leaders, international Caritas staff, civil society, and government officials will be looking at the impact of climate change on development, what it means for the future of the country, and ways to meet the challenges it poses.
